Željava Airbase sits right on the border between Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, a short drive from both Plitvice Lakes and the Bosnian city of Bihać. The complex lies in a valley at the foot of Mount Plješevica, at around 300 metres above sea level. The total area stretches across more than 8 million m² — the vast majority of it on Croatian soil.

IMPORTANT Here's the thing: the tunnels are enormous and pitch black. Around 98% of visitors who come alone never make it past the entrance. They take a photo and leave. With our guides, that discomfort disappears — and the real adventure begins.
After meeting your guide in Ličko Petrovo Selo, we head towards the Željava tunnels. Upon arriving at the tunnel entrance, we leave the cars and begin our exploration.
We explore tunnels where the aircraft were housed, discuss the infrastructure and construction methods, explore the auxiliary rooms, and at the end of the tour experience what absolute darkness truly feels like.
We exit the tunnels, get back in the cars and begin our drive along the runways — the Plitvice Street Race. We then continue along service roads to the Douglas C-47 aircraft and take 20 selfies from the pilot's cockpit!
Wear comfortable trainers — you'll be walking on uneven surfaces and clambering around an aircraft. Layer up, because the tunnels sit at around 10°C all year round and you'll spend about an hour inside. Bring a bottle of water too; there's nowhere nearby to buy drinks during the tour.
